Coursework: Statement of Intent

Introduction:

My Tv crime drama show "money motivated "will appear on Netflix as an Netflix original. My 3 minute extract will appear as an opening scene, where the main protagonist owes money to a dangerous and deadly gang and finds himself confronted by two of the top gang members. The narrative explores how the main protagonist (Jordan) struggles with the pressure of paying off the debt he owes to the impatient leaders of a lethal gang on his block.

Media Language

I will be meeting the brief by making my video three minutes long. My clip will start with a cross over between the main protagonist making his way home with his air pods in and the gang members counting the cash and realising that there's 2k short, this where the members leave to go find him and catch him while he's on his road and confront him giving him 72 hours. There will be non diegetic drill music playing during the cross over while the main protagonist is walking. There is diegetic sound of music that is the music being played out loud  by the gang members in the room where they are counting the money.  There will be ranges of camera movements including long shots as he is walking mid shots and close ups especially while he is getting confronted as it shows the facial expression. In the front covers of the show it will have money on there and the two main characters on there,  the mise en scene of them wearing trackies and be in a typical low class area. This a developing crime drama. there are cultural codes as there is a British culture of the gangs and young people being in troubled situations.

Media Representations
It perpetuates the stereotype that youth belong to gangs and are troublemakers. The scene where the gang puts pressure on him and makes threats demonstrates this. It's acknowledged that youth pose a threat.  Since the young boys all appear to have been tough from an early age, Gauntlet's theory of masculinity is demonstrated here. This is because the boys feel that in order to be considered men, they must be violent, strong, and dominant.

Media audience
Young teens are the target audience in order to give them knowledge about gangs and their true dangers. Because the characters would be perceived differently depending on who they encountered and whether or not they had the opportunity to learn why they were the way they were, the series seeks to help the audience develop a personal relationship with the characters. Additionally, a feeling of individual identity might exist. This could be as a result of the audience's upbringing, which has allowed them to identify with the characters—whether they were members of gangs or just witnessed them on the street.

Media Industries and digital convergence
The show would be streamed on Netflix as it is a Netflix original. The magazine the Sun would publish it. As he's working with Netflix, it is a major conglomerate.
